Bilingual Schools Educational Offer
Bilingual education is a strategy in the United States today so that immigrants can rapidly learn the lessons of all subjects using their native tongue. Only the English subject itself is taught in English. Bilingual education can be found in a university or college, in a community college or vocational school and in an online program or distance learning.
University / College
Many technical college programs in the United States today use bilingual education as a tool to fasttrack the learning of their students. These are mostly in the field of engineering or medicine. Basic and highly technical courses are taught in the students’ native language. Of course, the strategy here is to combine students who speak the same language in the same classroom. For example, a student from Paris may have a classmate from Quebec because they both speak French. A student from Cancun may have a classmate from Ibiza because they both speak Spanish. A student from Kowloon may have a classmate from Singapore because they both speak Mandarin. Bilingual education can be taught in three methods. The first method is for students to be taught technical courses in their native tongue for the first four semesters and later in English for the last four semesters. The second method is for non-English speaking students to be integrated with English students in a classroom. The ratio must be 50:50. The third method is for students to ask their professors in their native tongue and for the professors to reply in English. In this way, students can learn English as a second language.
Community College / Vocational School
Similar concepts stated above are available for students in a community college or vocational school although it must be imperative that students in these colleges cannot acquire a bachelor’s degree. A community college or a vocational school can only offer an associate’s degree in any program to their students. Students are also taught from a multi-cultural perspective, meaning that situational examples of technical lessons are not solely from a Caucasian point of view.
Online Program / Distance Learning
An online program or distance learning taught in a bilingual way is much more exciting. Students are given modules in both languages which they can either log online through their student account or receive via mail in the case of distance learning. To do online courses is definitely a good choice.
Before going to a bilingual school, one can prepare oneself by taking a course in the relevant country to boost language skills and polishing up before the academia year starts. This could be a sprachkurs in German or a curso de español in Tenerife or playing casino en ligne to learn French! – either way, you will really notice that you go from strength to strength once school begins thanks to a solid language learning background!
